The Distant Hours: A Novel Kate Morton

That fact alone was one of the reasons I chose this novel as my current favorite. It is a modern Gothic novel: three elderly sisters lost in the bowels of a decaying castle and a haunting story of love, betrayal and murder. If you haven't started thinking about Halloween yet, then this book trailer is certainly going to get you in the mood! Discussion: I knew when I was reading this that it was a “gothic novel” but it was more of an instinctual thing, so I set out to investigate just what one is, and whether in fact The Distant Hours meets that criteria. She gently takes us from 1992 London to 1941 Kent. In The Distant Hours, a story spanning two generations and fifty years, Kate Morton is at her best. Kate Morton's novels are like lazy summer days that seem peaceful until an unexpected storm comes upon you destroying your serenity. I'm a fan of Kate Morton's work, so I was happy to settle down and read The Distant Hours. At 670 pages, it isn't a book you can whizz through, nor is it an easy read. I have only read one other Kate Morton novel before which also happened to be her first, The House at Riverton. It captured my attention and held it therethrough three full readings in less than three weeks. Then, I read "The Distant Hours" a third time. The book is entitled The Distant Hours and it is the first book I have read by Kate Morton.
